Tatewin (tah-tay-wee) is currently a sophomore. She is a fantastic human that is dedicated to helping her people. She intends to graduate with a degree in human services in order to work at the White Buffalo Calf Society, an organization in Rosebud that shelters abused women with nowhere to go. She is most proud of earning her high school diploma, as most adults she looks up to have only earned their GED. She, like most have our scholars, have also seen and experienced the effects of generational trauma and racism. For example, all of the missing and murdered indigenous women in Rapid City (and elsewhere) do not get enough coverage or investigation. There is no doubt that she will overcome the odds and earn her degree, however, as her work ethic is phenomenal, having been working and earning money since 7th grade. In her own words, life is all about how you handle it and you can overcome anything if you push yourself and realize you do not always have to do it alone.
